How I Make A Full Time Salary As A Stay At Home Mom

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links which means if you buy one of the products I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for helping me live my dream.

When my husband and I decided it was time to expand our family (with babies – not puppies this time) I knew I wanted nothing more than to be a stay at home mom. But we were not in a place financially where we could make that happen. That’s when I started looking for a different route.

Finding a good paying stay at home job is harder than you think. That’s why I started researching affiliate marketing on Pinterest. After looking through all the different affiliate marketing programs, I landed on ShareASale. Mainly because I liked the companies that I could market for, I knew a lot of them and had used a lot of them myself when I ran a hobby lifestyle blog years before.

Fast forward to 7 months later when we finally saw those two pink lines! Our daughter would be due in March and my affiliate marketing was still in the “research” phase. Has anyone ever tried to start a side hustle while working full time and growing a human inside of you? It’s not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

Guaranteed Top 10 Exposure Across 350+ Search Engines

When March rolled around, I had a plan in place. While my little girl was awake, she would get my undivided attention. While she was asleep, I would use my Pinterest account to market my favorite products on ShareASale. Honestly, I’d probably spend that time on Pinterest anyway!

Now we are just about to my little ones 1st birthday *cue the tears* and signing up for ShareASale was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I type this on my phone while my little girl sleeps next to me. And that is my full time job! Not only am I contributing to the family income, but I am showing my daughter that you can be a present mother and create your own career.

Why Most Bloggers Never Get Rich

When I started my first blog I was so damn excited. I was going to post every day, have followers and make money. No. I was going to make a lot of money.

As the months went by, I started to get discouraged. My money pot of a blog was not making its return on investment. Why you ask? I didn’t know how to effectively use Affiliate Marketing in my blog posts. I had heard plenty about Affiliate Marketing but I wasn’t really sure what it was or how to use it in a way that my followers would want to buy the product I was promoting.

Here are the lessons I learned about how to make $bank$ when it comes to Affiliate Marketing on your blog.

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links which means if you buy one of the products I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for helping us keep the lights on.

1. I wasn’t using Using Affiliate Links that made sense with my brand.

We all naturally want to grab the affiliate link with the higher commission rate and slap it on our blog and call it a day. I get it. But if it doesn’t make sense with your brand your audience will be turned off by it. So take down that California Wine Club affiliate link when your audience knows you only like beer. (BUT if wine is your jam check out the California Wine Club’s ma & pa shop wineries!)

2. I wasn’t maximizing my use of Pinterest.

After each blog post, create a branded, beautiful Pinterest specific photo and pin it to all of your group boards. Not a part of any group boards? Join them. Now!!

You can also pin your Affiliate Links straight to Pinterest. ShareASale makes it super easy to find Pinterest images you can post directly to Pinterest. Makes it super easy for you!

3. I wasn’t using a Pinterest business account.

Make the switch. It’s easy. And while you’re add it, brand up your account. Those random vegan recipes you’ve been saving and the idea board for your daughters first birthday? Make them private.

Pinterest business accounts help you see what pins are working with your audience. Use that information to make more pins like that! See? Easy as pie.

4. I wasn’t using hashtags.

Up until a few months ago I had no clue that hashtags did anything on Pinterest. I am living prof that they, in fact, do. Once I started putting hashtags in my posts my posts started going viral. My rule of thumb is 5 hashtags per pin.

5. I wasn’t using Tailwind.

You schedule every other social media account out right? So why are you still wasting time manually pinning! Schedule that shit!
