How I Make A Full Time Salary As A Stay At Home Mom

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links which means if you buy one of the products I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for helping me live my dream.

When my husband and I decided it was time to expand our family (with babies – not puppies this time) I knew I wanted nothing more than to be a stay at home mom. But we were not in a place financially where we could make that happen. That’s when I started looking for a different route.

Finding a good paying stay at home job is harder than you think. That’s why I started researching affiliate marketing on Pinterest. After looking through all the different affiliate marketing programs, I landed on ShareASale. Mainly because I liked the companies that I could market for, I knew a lot of them and had used a lot of them myself when I ran a hobby lifestyle blog years before.

Fast forward to 7 months later when we finally saw those two pink lines! Our daughter would be due in March and my affiliate marketing was still in the “research” phase. Has anyone ever tried to start a side hustle while working full time and growing a human inside of you? It’s not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

Guaranteed Top 10 Exposure Across 350+ Search Engines

When March rolled around, I had a plan in place. While my little girl was awake, she would get my undivided attention. While she was asleep, I would use my Pinterest account to market my favorite products on ShareASale. Honestly, I’d probably spend that time on Pinterest anyway!

Now we are just about to my little ones 1st birthday *cue the tears* and signing up for ShareASale was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I type this on my phone while my little girl sleeps next to me. And that is my full time job! Not only am I contributing to the family income, but I am showing my daughter that you can be a present mother and create your own career.

Why Most Bloggers Never Get Rich

When I started my first blog I was so damn excited. I was going to post every day, have followers and make money. No. I was going to make a lot of money.

As the months went by, I started to get discouraged. My money pot of a blog was not making its return on investment. Why you ask? I didn’t know how to effectively use Affiliate Marketing in my blog posts. I had heard plenty about Affiliate Marketing but I wasn’t really sure what it was or how to use it in a way that my followers would want to buy the product I was promoting.

Here are the lessons I learned about how to make $bank$ when it comes to Affiliate Marketing on your blog.

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links which means if you buy one of the products I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for helping us keep the lights on.

1. I wasn’t using Using Affiliate Links that made sense with my brand.

We all naturally want to grab the affiliate link with the higher commission rate and slap it on our blog and call it a day. I get it. But if it doesn’t make sense with your brand your audience will be turned off by it. So take down that California Wine Club affiliate link when your audience knows you only like beer. (BUT if wine is your jam check out the California Wine Club’s ma & pa shop wineries!)

2. I wasn’t maximizing my use of Pinterest.

After each blog post, create a branded, beautiful Pinterest specific photo and pin it to all of your group boards. Not a part of any group boards? Join them. Now!!

You can also pin your Affiliate Links straight to Pinterest. ShareASale makes it super easy to find Pinterest images you can post directly to Pinterest. Makes it super easy for you!

3. I wasn’t using a Pinterest business account.

Make the switch. It’s easy. And while you’re add it, brand up your account. Those random vegan recipes you’ve been saving and the idea board for your daughters first birthday? Make them private.

Pinterest business accounts help you see what pins are working with your audience. Use that information to make more pins like that! See? Easy as pie.

4. I wasn’t using hashtags.

Up until a few months ago I had no clue that hashtags did anything on Pinterest. I am living prof that they, in fact, do. Once I started putting hashtags in my posts my posts started going viral. My rule of thumb is 5 hashtags per pin.

5. I wasn’t using Tailwind.

You schedule every other social media account out right? So why are you still wasting time manually pinning! Schedule that shit!

How to Get Started Making Money With Affiliate Marketing

On my continuous journey to always increase my cash flow and diversify my income streams, I have come across affiliate marketing many many times. For the first few years of my online business I wrinkled my nose at affiliate marketing and declared it was not for me. I don’t think I’m alone with this.

My disgust with affiliate marketing mainly came from my lack of knowledge about how it worked. I didn’t understand how it would significantly increase my income and I didn’t feel comfortable influencing my audience to purchase specific products or sign up for a service.

5 years ago if you had told me that in order to run a successful business you will need to learn how to sell, I would have socked you in the face. “Sell” used to be a 4 letter word in my book. I’m still working to get over that mind block, but I’ve come along way since then. Which is why I am here to take you by the shoulders and shake you until you realize affiliate marketing is what is going to increase the profits for your online business.

Does not matter what online business you have. If you follow these steps and you earn more money, please share this post with everyone you know. If you loose money, feel free to hunt me down and tell me to f off.

Do you ever recommend products on your blog or within your online business? That is the easier place to start.

For bloggers,

Take a look at all of your past blog posts where you recommended a product. Whether it’s a book, a monthly planner, a service or online business tool. Now go to that product’s website and see if they have an affiliate program and apply. Once you’re approved, simple use their link and add it to your post. For books and planners, check out Amazon Affiliate Program (Amazon Associates).

You can also join other affiliate programs such as ShareASale or CJ Affiliates and check out what brands they have available. Are there any brands that fit well with your niche? Add a promo banner on the side of your blog.

For consultants,

Take a look and see if there are any affiliate programs for tools you already recommend to your clients. That will be the most natural way to earn your first affiliate sales.

Again, if you look into CJ Affiliates or ShareASale and see any brands that pair well with your business, add them to you website. Or check them out and see if they are a service you would like to start recommending to you clients. I have found out a lot about companies by researching them after seeing they had an affiliate program.

There are so many ways to make BANK when it comes to affiliate marketing. It may not happen today and it may not happen tomorrow. But adding affiliate links into your website, blog or current business recommendations now will pay off later. Think of it as an investment in your time.

Your online business is your baby. I of all people fully understand that! If you’re anything like me you have a love / hate relationship with options. Its like going to a buffet. All the food you can eat WOOHOO! But then when you get in line you realize there are so many options to pick from and your plate is only so big.

When you are choosing your website host, you might be feeling overwhelmed. Lucky for you, I put together a few questions you should ask yourself before deciding which web hosting provider is the right fit for you and your baby *ahem* business.

Are you a beginner?

If you are jumping into the online business world with no previous experience, kudos! However, you should keep that in mind when reading reviews on customer service.

When I started out, I choose a web hosting serve that had an online chat available almost at all times because I ask a million questions. Also, I hate talk on the phone so the online chat feature was pretty important for me!

Luckily, Liquid Web has an online chat system so you don’t have to actually talk to humans. They actually call themselves the “Most Helpful Humans in Hosting.”

Do you like options? Or one size fits all?

I know I just got telling you I have a love / hate relationship with options however when it comes to you web hosting provider I strongly believe in options. A one size fits all mentality doesn’t work!

How long does it take your website to load your home page? Does your business keep confidential information for your customers where you would need a high level of security? Do you have an eCommerce website or a consulting business?

Liquid Web has so many different options. You can work with them to get a practically customer package for your business. Don’t pay for what you don’t need and make sure all the features you do need are available to you. They even have a cool feature to help you choose what is best for your business.

Do you want to trust your hosting provider?

I don’t know about you but I get pretty skeptical about services I’m not familiar with on the internet. Maybe I’m aging myself. However, Liquid Web has been in business for over 20 years.

They aren’t a pop up shop looking to take a years worth of salary only to disappear.

They serve over 30,000 customer and over 500,000 sites. Those numbers sound pretty good to me.

Every business and every person is different. So you choose what is best for you and your company. Take a look at Liquid Web compared to other hosting providers.

Keep in mind if you are looking for a hosting provider that will help you as your business grows, can provide exactly what your business needs and are a trust worthy hosting provider Liquid Web is definitely a provider you want to sign up for.
